MTLH organise social holiday activity for such families and persons who could not otherwise have a holiday. Any person or family that resides permanently in Finland can apply for holiday support. Holiday support is granted on application based on economic, health and social grounds. Financially supported five-day full-board domestic holiday programmes are designed around the needs of different target groups: families with children, pensioners, unemployed individuals, people with disabilities and people suffering from health issues.
The effects of social holidays
Thousands of adults and children participate in MTLH holidays every year. Without social holidays, they would be left without holiday experiences. Holidays give necessary refreshment and resources to cope with life. Social holidays have long-term positive effects on the life situation of those who take part in the holiday, and for many the holiday is a turning point.
Studies on social holidays prove that the holidays increase feelings of inclusion and well-being and increase people’s view of their own capabilities to influence their own lives. After the holiday, people feel that their quality of life has improved and they feel less lonely than before the holiday. Also, the family bond deepens during a social holiday.
With social holidays, a more equal society is built. They prevent social exclusion and increase well-being. The effect is nationwide and significant.
Can I attach a certificate to the client’s holiday application?
You can attach a certificate to the client’s holiday application stating why the applicant needs a social holiday. The certificate can contribute to the granting of a holiday to the customer.
Can we financially support the customer with holiday expenses?
A social service or other entity can pay the customer’s deductible or, for example, support the customer in the costs of travel expenses. The customer can either deliver the deductible payment invoice to you or ask you for a payment commitment.
