
MTLH organize social holiday activity to such families and persons who could not otherwise have a holiday. Any person or family that resides permanently in Finland can apply for holiday support. Holiday support is granted on application based on economic, health and social grounds. Financially supported five-day full-board domestic holiday programs are designed around the needs of different target groups: families with children, pensioners, unemployed individuals, people with disabilities and people suffering from health issues.

Matters affecting the decision to grant a holiday Previous holiday support. Applicants can be granted a holiday no more than every second year. Those applying for the first time are given priority. If an applicant have been granted a social holiday in the current year or in the previous calendar year, they are in a qualifying period and can not be granted a holiday before the qualifying period has ended. The applicant’s economic situation. For example small income, large amounts of debt, medical expenses or accommodation costs. Social grounds. For example unemployment, lay-off, loneliness, family carer role, family problems or a difficult situation in life. Health reasons. For example disability, physical or mental illnesses. The number of applicants. Due to the large number of applicants, we are only able to grant a holiday to some of the applicants. MTLH makes the decisions to grant holidays in line with the policies of the Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisations STEA. The price of the holiday The deductible is €125 / holidaymaker over 17 years old. Children under the age of 17 vacation free of charge. The holidaymaker organizes and pays for trips to the holiday destination themselves. The affects of social holiday activity Social holiday leads to increased levels of subjective well-being and to increased experience of inclusion. Among children and young people, social holidays reduce exclusion, provide opportunities for learning and support positive behavior changes. Among seniors, social tourism can offer a recreational escape from mundane routines. For people living with disabilities, holiday trips contribute to satisfaction with life across all domains.

You can attach a certificate to the client’s holiday application stating why the applicant needs a social holiday. The certificate can contribute to the granting of holiday to the customer.

A social service or other entity can pay the customer’s deductible or, for example, support the customer in the costs of travel expenses. The customer can either deliver the deductible payment invoice to you or ask you for a payment commitment.
