Maaseudun Terveys- ja Lomahuolto (MTLH) organises holidays for those that otherwise cannot afford going on a holiday. The Support Person Network of Rural Finland also operates within MTLH, offering volunteer support for the residents of rural areas of Finland.
The association was founded in 1954 with the objective to assist the strained mothers of low-income families in the rural areas of Finland and to provide them with the opportunity for a holiday and relaxation.
Today, the NGO (rekisteröitynyt yhdistys) MTLH operates nationally and offers almost 600 weeks of supported group holidays annually in numerous holiday destinations across Finland. We organise holidays for families with children, working-aged people, elderly people as well as special holidays for those belonging to different target groups. The holidays of groups with special requirements are supported by organising the holidays in accessible holiday facilities and by providing the holidaymakers with general assistance. Approximately half of the holidays are organised in cooperation with different social and health organisations. These cooperation organisations have a significant role when it comes to developing and improving the holidays, informing and carrying out related research.
The holidays of MTLH provide people with a getaway from their daily lives and offer peer support from people in similar situations in life. Every person has the right for a holiday!
